Nita Ambani, the founder and chairperson of Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), announced today that East Bengal will join the Indian Super League (ISL) as the 11th team of the competition.
Since Mohun Bagan announced their participation in the Indian Super League after merging with ISL champions ATK, the fans of the Red and Gold army put all the pressure on the East Bengal management to join the ISL.
East Bengal celebrated their 100th years of existence this year. And the fans of the club will be very that their wish has been full filled by the club management.
East Bengal parted ways with its investor Quess Corp earlier. And as they needed a good bank guarantee, they had to look for a new investor. The search led them to a lot of parties but didn’t work out.
But earlier this month, they announced Shree Cement as the new investor of the club, who also guarantee the bank balance that is needed to participate in the top tier competition.
Today, Mrs Nita Ambani on behalf of FSDL confirmed the Red and Golds entry into the Indian Super League.
Nita Ambani, the founder and chairperson of the FSDL commented, “It is such a happy and proud moment for ISL as we welcome East Bengal FC and their millions of fans into the League. The inclusion of both legacy clubs, i.e. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan (now ATK Mohun Bagan) opens limitless possibilities for Indian football, especially for talent development in the state.”
“West Bengal has made an immense contribution to the growth of the beautiful game in India. ISL’s growing footprint in the state and across India, is yet another step towards our mission of building a competitive and robust football ecosystem in the country,” she added.
