Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) has changed its name to Punjab Kings. A formal communication has been made to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and approval is understood to have also been obtained. BCCI has also addressed Kings XI Punjab as Punjab Kings in internal communication.
Kings XI Punjab will be using its new name, Punjab Kings at the auction of the fourteenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021 Auction) in Chennai on February 18.
Kings XI Punjab is also planning to relaunch the entity with the new brand name and logo in Mumbai on February 17, just a day before the IPL 2021 Auction. Kings XI Punjab is owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Karan Paul.
It’s not the first time IPL franchise is changing its name, Delhi Capitals have changed their name from Delhi Daredevils in 2018 and Rising Pune Supergiants removed an ‘s’ from their name and played as Supergiant in the 2017 season.
