Atletico Madrid’s Argentine head coach Diego Simeone has been tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, during a routine check-up with the team. The manager isn’t showing any symptoms and in-home isolation.
Another member from the Atletico staff has been tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. Before this, club forward Diego Costa was tested positive and even before their Champions League quarterfinal clash with RB Leipzig, two of the squad members were tested positive for coronavirus.
The club in a statement, “Team, coaching staff and auxiliary personnel underwent PCR tests on Friday as soon as they returned from the concentration in Los Angeles de San Rafael after detecting a positive in a member of the expedition in the previous tests carried out on Thursday.”
“The analysis of these new samples in the laboratory has determined that our trainer, Diego Pablo Simeone, has given a positive result for Covid-19,” the statement further read.
“Fortunately, our technician does not present any symptoms and is at his home isolated and fulfilling the corresponding quarantine after being concentrated with the team since last Monday,” the statement added.
Atletico is scheduled to play a friendly at Cadiz on Tuesday. Like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla, Atletico has its first two rounds of the Spanish league postponed to give the teams more rest after the competed in Europe in August.
The LaLiga campaign for Atletico will begin with home game against Granada on September 27 at the Wanda Metropolitano. So they are hoping for a quick recovery of their players and their manager.
