Gautam Gambhir is not in favour of two T20 World Cup in a year, this statement comes after the speculation that 2020 T20 World Cup should be shifted to February-March next year (2021).
Speaking to the Vikrant Gupta of Sports Tak, Gautam Gambhir said, “I think if you play two back to back T20 World Cup in a year (2021), its importance will get diluted. This year Australia is hosting the T20 World Cup, next year in 2021 India will host and then in 2023, we have 50 over World Cup.”
Gautam Gambhir suggests the shifting of one T20 Word Cup to 2022. So that all the three World Cup, two T20 World Cup and one 50-over World Cup can be played in all three different years.
“It will be good if the 2020 T20 World Cup is shifted in 2022 or the 2021 T20 World Cup in India is shifted to 2022,” he added.
“If we organise 2021 T20 World Cup in Australia, 2022 World Cup in India and then 50 over World Cup in 2023, we will get three back-to-back World Cup,” he added.
He also suggests that it will be beneficial for players also mainly who are in their 30s and will get to play three World Cup in three years.
“The players who are in the age group of 33-34 will get to play three World Cups in three years. And will get there chances to be World Champions and may players don’t get these opportunities. Many players have to wait 5-6 year for this opportunity,” he said.
Australia is to host the 2020 T20 World Cup between October 18 to November 16. Also Gautam Gambhir is in the favour of IPL to lift the mood of the country.
