Ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Gujarat Titans (GT) named Sandeep Warrier as a replacement for Mohammed Shami. Warrier will be joining the side for his base price of INR 50 Lakhs.
Mohammed Shami is currently in rehabilitation after a successful Achilles’ heel surgery in London for his right heel problem. Shami had been injured since the ODI World Cup 2023 and has not played since. Shami had to take injections throughout the World Cup period to subside pain in his Achilles’ heel.
Warrier has played five IPL games – all with Kolkata Knight Riders between 2019 and 2021. He has also been with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2013-15) and Mumbai Indians (2023) without getting a game.
The 32-year-old has played five IPL matches since 2019, grabbing two wickets at an economy of 7.88.
Gujarat Titans will begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24, Sunday.
