Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have announced the appointment of former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener as Assistant Coach for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).
Klusener will join head coach Justin Langer and assistant coach S Sriram during the upcoming IPL season.
Klusener is a familiar face in the Super Giants family having guided the Durban’s Super Giants to the SA20 final earlier this year.
This will mark the beginning of Klusener’s second stint as a coach in the IPL. He served as an assistant to former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock at Mumbai Indians in the beginning years of IPL.
Klusener has left his mark in the Caribbean Premier League as under his leadership Guyana Amazon Warriors won their maiden CPL title.
“Absolutely delighted to have Lance joining LSG support staff. He’s already part of the family being the head coach of the South African Franchise. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience,” Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Longer said.
During his playing days, Klusener was regarded as one of the finest all-rounders to have graced the limited-overs game. He was also the Player of the Tournament in the 1999 World Cup.
After his retirement, Klusener, fondly and famously called Zulu, has gone on to build an enviable coaching resume for himself. On the international stage, Klusener has served as the head coach of the Afghanistan national team and has also coached the Zimbabwe and South African national teams in varying capacities.
