Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is necessary to change the mood of the country.
Talking to the Sports Tak, Cricketer turned politician Gautam Gambhir said, “If as a politician you will ask from me, I think saving people life is more important. But if you want to change the mood of the country, IPL is necessary. IPL is just not to win, sometimes it’s necessary to change the mood of the country. Nothing can be a better thing then IPL to change the mood of the country.”
He also added that franchise should play this IPL, not for winning or losing bu for the country.
“Many people will tell me that IPL is more important for you than people’s life but if IPL happens this year, it will not to win or lose. No franchise should see that as winning or losing it, they should see it as changing the atmosphere of the country. I am not saying this as a politician or a cricketer, I am saying this as an Indian,” he added.
He thinks IPL is the best way to change the mood and wipe out negativity due to coronavirus in the country.
“At home, people are thinking about the economy and the entire country is at a standstill. And this creates negativity in people’s mind. But when people will watch IPL, the atmosphere and the mood will change. IPL 2020 will be the most important and valuable IPL in the last 12 years,” he said.
He is also in favour of IPL behind doors so that people can watch the match at home and be entertained. He goes onto say that IPL is important even if it’s without the foreign player.
“IPL should be there even its behind closed doors, or even only with Indian players,” he said.
IPL 2020 is postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 pandemic around the globe originally it was scheduled to start from March 29.
