Delhi Capitals fast blower Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of IPL 2020 due to ‘a left internal oblique muscle tear’ in his rib cage he experienced during the training session. Ishant Sharma has only played one match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 26 September this season.
“Delhi Capitals fast bowler Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of left rib cage pain while bowling at a team training session on 7 October 2020 in Dubai,” Delhi Capitals said in a media release.
“Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear. This injury will, unfortunately, rule him out of the remainder of the Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020. Everyone at Delhi Capitals wishes Ishant a speedy recovery,” media release added.
Delhi Capitals are second on the points table, but their bench strength os a worrying factor due to spate of injuries this season.
Ishant Sharma is the second Delhi Capitals player to ruled out of IPL 2020 due to injury. Earlier this month, Amit Mishra, the leg spinner was ruled out due to a finger injury.
In the first match of the season, Ravichandran Ashwin suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of the next two matches. Rishabh Pant has also been out of cricketing action for a week due to hamstring strain.
Delhi Capitals have written to the Indian Premier League Governing Council, asking for a player replacement for Ishant Sharma. DC have used the likes of Avesh Khan, Mohit Sharma and more recently Harshal Patel to fill Ishant’s void in the XI with neither of them managing to nail their spot.
Ishant Sharma is in doubt for the Australia tour after the 13th season of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) later this year. Having picked up 11 wickets from three matches at an average of 23.82 when India claimed a historic Test series win in Australia in 2018-19, Ishant was expected to be picked up for the Test leg of the upcoming tour as well.
