Ahead of the ninth season of the Indian Super League (ISL 2022-23) Mumbai City FC have announced the departures of Mohamad Rakip, Igor Angulo, Diego Maurício, Cássio Gabriel, Bradden Inman and Vikram Singh after their respective contracts with the club expired.
Ahead of ISL 2021-22, Mumbai City FC roped in ISL 2020-21 Golden Boot winner Igor Angulo from FC Goa. The Spaniard didn’t contribute much but ended up as the top scorer for them at the end of the season with 10 goals in his kitty.
Brazilian forward Diego Maurício was brought in as a replacement for the outgoing Ygor Catatau in the winter transfer window of the ISL 2021-22. Diego Mauricio made a good impact given his limited minutes on the pitch, racking up three goals in seven matches in the ISL 2021-22. The striker also came in clutch in his side’s debut AFC Champions League campaign where the striker scored two crucial goals, helping them do a double against Iraqi side Air Force Club.
Signed as a loanee from Brazilian club Vila Nova FC ahead of the ISL 2021-22, attacking midfielder Cássio Gabriel was a starter in almost every game. The Brazilian racked up a goal and provided five assists besides having the second-most shots on target (15) for his side.
Another player to get signed ahead of the ISL 2021-22, Australian midfielder Bradden Inman joined the Islanders from Kolkata side ATK Mohun Bagan. The 30-year-old was not a regular starter but thrived after coming off the bench. Inman finished the 21-22 season with two assists to his tally.
Having made nine appearances in their double-title winning campaign, defender Mohamad Rakip joined Mumbai City FC two seasons back, ahead of the ISL 2020-21. Rakip had limited game-time under the helm of manager Des Buckingham, featuring in just four games.
After impressing in the youth circuit of Mumbai City FC, goalkeeper Vikram Singh was promoted to the senior team ahead of the ISL 2020-21. Although a historic and outstanding campaign for the Islanders, the 28-year-old didn’t get a chance to make his debut for the senior team.
