Ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Super League (ISL 2024-25), Jamshedpur FC announced the departure of Nigerian forward Daniel Chima Chukwu through their social media handles on Tuesday.
Chukwu joined East Bengal FC during the 2021-22 ISL season, but his time with the Kolkata club wasn’t fruitful. In his 10 appearances with East Bengal FC, he managed to score only two goals.
The forward switched clubs during the winter transfer window and joined Jamshedpur FC, where he appeared as a completely different player under Owen Coyle. With the support of Greg Stewart, Chukwu was provided with ample opportunities and he capitalized on them. He played a pivotal role upfront, netting seven goals and providing one assist for the Men of Steel, leading Jamshedpur FC to end the season by lifting the ISL League Shield.
His performance earned him a two-year extension with the club. Although his subsequent seasons were not as prolific as his first, he still scored valuable goals for the team over the next two seasons.
Chukwu netted 11 goals and made three assists in the league during this period, including a hat-trick against Hyderabad FC in the latest season. Overall, he made 55 appearances for Jamshedpur FC during his two-and-a-half-year stint at the club, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists across all competitions. He leaves the club as their all-time leading goalscorer.
