Sri Lanka Cricket rescheduled the Lanka Premier League 2020 (LPL 2020) and will be held from November 27 to December 17 which was scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 14.
All the 23 matches of the tournament will be played at the Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota as per health instructions. Earlier matches were also scheduled to be played at of Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.
“Several rounds of discussions were held between the representatives of Sri Lanka Cricket and the officials of the Ministry of Health regarding the holding of the tournament due to the effects of the COVD-19 pandemic. Accordingly, the government has approved the tournament to be held subject to the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
“We have a lot of confidence in the future of the tournament because of the government’s support for it. Also, as the tournament is being held only in Hambantota, it will be easier to maintain the Bio-Secure Bubble created for the tournament,” said Ravin Wickramaratne, Vice President of Sri Lanka Cricket, who is also the Director of the Lanka Premier League.
