Paris Saint-Germain announced that they have agreed a contract extension with Marquinhos. The Brazilian defender, 29, will continue his journey with the Rouge-et-Bleu through to 30 June 2028.
After coming through the Corinthians youth academy, the Sao Paulo-born defender joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2013 aged just 19 after signing from AS Roma, where he had spent the 2012/13 season.
During his 9 seasons so far in the French capital, Brazil international has won 7 French league titles (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2022), 6 Coupes de France (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 & 2021), six Coupes de la Ligue (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2020), and 7 Trophées des champions (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2022).
On 8 April 2023, during the Ligue 1 Matchday 30 win at OGC Nice (0-2), Marquinhos played his 400th competitive match for Paris Saint-German. He has the third-most appearances of all-time for the Club behind only Jean-Marc Pilorget (435 matches) and teammate Marco Verratti (413). Marquinhos has played more European games than anyone else for the Club with 81 appearances.
In 2020, following the departure of Thiago Silva, whom he considers his “footballing idol”, Marquinhos became Paris Saint-Germain captain. During the 3-0 win at Marseille on 26 February 2023, he reached the symbolic milestone of 100 wins as Paris Saint-Germain captain (now 106 wins in 155 games).
He made his international debut on 17 November 2013 against Honduras (5-0). Marquinhos has played 76 times (5 goals) for his country. A 2016 Olympic gold medal winner in Rio de Janeiro, he also contributed to the Seleção’s Copa America win in 2019.
“I am delighted to sign a contract extension, but also very proud,” said Marquinhos.
“This is a very special moment for me. Paris Saint-Germain has always shown confidence in me, and I also have a lot of confidence in this club. I am convinced that we will continue to achieve great things together in the years to come,” he added.
Paris Saint-Germain chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi said, “We are very happy Marquinhos has extended his time with the Paris Saint-Germain family. I remember when he joined the Club at the age of 19. From day one, he showed great dedication and a winning spirit – always fighting for the Paris Saint-Germain jersey. His football talent, experience and commitment to the Club are exceptional. I know we will have many more successes together as Marquinhos’ history continues with PSG.”
